What to do about holey t-shirts?!
•Posted on February 15 2023

Okay, I know I'm not the only one!
All of my regular-ass cotton t-shirts have holes in the tummy.
I get a ton of them on my belly from my jeans button rubbing through when I lean against counters.
Looking through a bunch of mending resources, the techniques used to mend holes or larger spaces on items are geared toward woven fabrics. And the knitted fabric mending techniques are largely for bigger stitches like on socks or sweaters.
I considered trying to make a patchwork patch to cover up the area with holes, and then maybe embellish it with some running stitches. Or even embroidering little flowers or something over the holes. But none of this seemed like a good idea for thin cotton knit fabric. A patch would be too heavy and rigid, embroidery would take forever, and would likely need some structural reinforcement, again making it a heavy solution.
You'll see what I settled on in this video, and I think it worked out pretty well!
