Why Several Yarn Bases Are Being Discontinued
•Posted on July 11 2022
Hey everyone. I'm super sad to say that several of my bases will be going away once I dye up what I have!
I've been working with Echoview Fiber Mill since 2018. Unfortunately, they recently announced that they are closing. The current economy just wasn't supportive of their business, and it'll be a big loss to the fiber community.
What I loved about Echoview was that it was woman owned & run, inclusive, they sourced their wool from US flocks, it was of course milled there in North Carolina, and there were never any synthetic fibers used or superwash treatments done to the fibers.
The bases that will be discontinued are High Twist Merino Sock, Merino Tencel Sock, and High Twist Merino DK. This is such a blow to my inventory because merino is widely known and appreciated by fiber artists, and its worsted spun construction paired with the high twist in the yarn made the fingering weight exceptional for socks, and all of the bases just excellent mainstream workhorse options.
I have a good amount of yarn still to dye up, but much of it is spoken for in my upcoming shop update and a knitting pattern design collaboration.
I'll keep everyone abreast of both when I'm out of Echoview yarn to dye and any leads on comparable bases to try out.
I love the rest of my bases of course, but losing these versatile staples is so hard!
If you're not already, subscribe to my newsletter for my next shop update and inventory of these bases and any newcomers to the lineup.
Forest Lane Fiber Co will always be committed to sourcing non-superwash yarn focusing on small domestic farms & mills, and I'm so glad you're all here with me on this journey to build sustainable handmade wardrobes out of materials that give back to the land and the people.
Love you. Larissa
